Device Manager is a Windows desktop app for commissioning IP cameras. It finds ONVIF cameras on the local network, shows what each camera reports, checks its stream and clock, and changes its settings.

Install

  1. Sign in to your Kalytera account and download Device Manager from Downloads. We approve new accounts before downloads open.
  2. Run the MSI installer. It installs Device Manager for all users in C:\Program Files\Kalytera Device Manager and adds it to the Start menu under Kalytera.

Our installers are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may ask you to confirm before the installer runs: select More info, then Run anyway. Device Manager runs on 64-bit Windows, includes everything it needs, and does not need administrator rights to run.

Find cameras

  1. Open Kalytera Device Manager from the Start menu.
  2. Select Scan network. Device Manager sends an ONVIF WS-Discovery probe on every active IPv4 network interface and lists the cameras that answer within a few seconds.

Discovery uses multicast, which does not normally cross routers, so run the scan from a computer on the same network segment as the cameras. If a camera does not answer, check that ONVIF is enabled on it. Each scan replaces the list.

Enter the camera login

Before you select a camera, type its user name and password in ONVIF login at the top of the window. Device Manager uses this login for ONVIF, for the video stream, for snapshots, and for the manufacturer's own interface. It does not save the login between sessions. After changing the login, select the camera again.

Inspect a camera

Select a camera in the list to load its details:

  • Device: manufacturer, model, firmware, and serial number.
  • Media profiles: each profile's codec, resolution, frame rate, and stream URI.
  • Take snapshot: a still image from the camera's ONVIF snapshot address.
  • Check stream: opens the first profile over RTSP and reports whether video flows, the codec, and the time to the first frame.
  • Check clock: compares the camera's clock with pool.ntp.org, or with this computer's clock if the time server cannot be reached, and rates the difference from in sync (under 2 seconds) to severe (over 5 minutes).

Change settings

Select Settings to read and edit the camera's Video encoder, Image, OSD overlays, Network, and Time / NTP settings. Each section has its own apply button, such as Apply stream or Apply network. Device Manager talks to Axis cameras through Axis VAPIX, to Hikvision through Hikvision ISAPI, and to Dahua through Dahua HTTP, with ONVIF for every other brand and as a fallback; a badge shows which one is in use.

Changing a camera's IP address can move it off your subnet. Scan again to find it at its new address.

Free and Pro

The free edition includes discovery, device information, snapshots, stream and clock checks, and settings for one camera at a time, with no limit on the number of cameras. Pro adds:

  • Fleet actions on the ticked cameras, or on all of them when none are ticked: Export inventory (CSV), Time-sync (switches cameras to NTP and keeps their time zones), Reboot…, Credential audit, and Site PDF report.
  • Per camera: Run diagnostics, which checks the stream, codec, clock, and known manufacturer issues and suggests a fix for each finding, and Generate PDF report.

Credential audit tries up to six common factory-default logins per camera, 750 ms apart, and stops at the first one that works. Some cameras lock an account after several failed logins, so run the audit when a lockout will not disrupt the site. Exports and reports are saved to your Documents folder.

To activate Pro, download license.key from your Kalytera account, save it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Kalytera\DeviceManager\, and restart Device Manager. The badge in the header changes from FREE to PRO. Request a Pro quote.
