Site Designer is a Windows desktop app for planning camera coverage on floor plans and turning the design into a proposal.

Install

  1. Sign in to your Kalytera account and download Site Designer from Downloads. We approve new accounts before downloads open.
  2. Run the MSI installer. It installs Site Designer for all users in C:\Program Files\Kalytera Site Designer and adds it to the Start menu under Kalytera.

Our installers are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may ask you to confirm before the installer runs: select More info, then Run anyway. Site Designer runs on 64-bit Windows and includes everything it needs. It opens in English or Spanish, following Windows; change it under Language and restart the app.

Plan a site

  1. Open Project and select New, or Load sample to explore a finished example.
  2. Select Import plan… and choose a PNG, JPEG, or BMP image, a PDF (its first page), or a DXF drawing. DXF lines and polylines become walls, and the plan is already to scale.
  3. Select Calibrate, drag a line over a distance you know, enter the Real length (m), and select Apply scale. Cameras, walls, and areas can be placed once the plan is calibrated.
  4. Choose a camera model in Place with, select Place camera, and click the plan. With Select, drag a camera to move it and drag its handle to aim it.
  5. Select Draw wall to add walls that block coverage, and draw an Area of interest where coverage matters.

In Camera properties, adjust the Focal length (mm), Mount height (m), and Coverage model: Standard for fixed cameras, Ptz, or Fisheye360. For PTZ cameras, the circle shows where the camera can look, not what it sees at once. The camera presets cover more than 300 Axis, Dahua, and Hikvision models, plus generic camera classes. Use + Floor for multi-floor sites; each floor has its own plan, scale, cameras, walls, and area.

Read the coverage

Each camera shows its DORI zones on the plan, based on the pixel densities of EN 62676-4:

LevelMinimum pixel density
Identify250 px/m
Recognize125 px/m
Observe62.5 px/m
Detect25 px/m

With an area of interest drawn, Area coverage shows the share of the area covered at each level and shades blind spots, where nothing reaches Detect, in red. Auto-place cameras adds up to 12 fixed cameras per run, using the Place with model, to reach the Target coverage (%) at the DORI level set in At DORI level.

Size lenses, bandwidth, storage, and cabling

  • FoV Calculator: the Lens finder recommends a lens for the DORI level you need, and the IR check warns when the detection range goes beyond the camera's infrared reach.
  • Bandwidth: average and peak bit rates, with a warning above 1 Gbit/s.
  • Storage: retention, recording mode, and array type (JBOD or RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, or 10) give the storage per day, the total, and the number of disks.
  • NVR / rack: place the rack on the plan to see the total cable length, the longest run (flagged over 90 m), the PoE budget, and the switch size.

Switch between metric and imperial units, and between light and dark themes, at any time. Proposals always use metric units.

Export a proposal

Open Export, fill in the project and customer details, and select Refresh from design to build the bill of materials from the plan. Then use Generate proposal PDF…, Export CSV…, or Export Excel… to save the proposal. The PDF includes the camera schedule, bandwidth and storage, network and cabling, the bill of materials, and a coverage plan for each floor.

Site Designer does not save automatically. Select Save… to store the project as a .ksdproj file, which contains the plans and the design.
