Open Kalytera VMS in the browser at https:// followed by the management server's name and :7443, and sign in with your user name and password. The first administrator is created at the end of installation; see Install Kalytera VMS.
The connection uses HTTPS by default, with the certificate Setup issued for the server's name, its fully qualified domain name, and its LAN addresses, or with a certificate an administrator imported. If the browser warns about the certificate, trust it on your computer. HTTP is available too, with a visible warning that the connection is not encrypted.
Operate and Configure
The sidebar switches between two workspaces. Each user sees only the pages their permissions allow.
| Workspace | Pages |
|---|---|
| Operate | Home, Video (Live and Playback), Alarms, Monitoring, and Maps |
| Configure | Devices, Recording & storage, Users, Roles & permissions, Maps & relationships, Events & automation, and System |
Check readiness on Home
Home shows the alarms that need attention and an installation readiness checklist covering Management, Site Nodes, live video, camera state, and recording storage. Items that need work link to the page where you fix them, and the checklist reads Ready when everything is in place.
Set up the system
This order works well for a new installation:
- Check the servers in Configure > System. With the Standalone profile, the local Site Node is already registered.
- Add cameras in Configure > Devices. See Add cameras.
- Organize sites and areas in Configure > Maps & relationships, under Sites & relationships: create sites and areas, add resource groups, and place each camera in its site and area. Permissions can then be limited to a site, an area, or a group.
- Set up recording in Configure > Recording & storage. See Recording and playback.
- Create maps from your floor plans. See Maps.
- Create rules that raise alarms and run actions. See Rules and alarms.
- Add users and roles for your operators. See Users and permissions.
Keep an eye on health
Operate > Monitoring summarizes the health of cameras, recording and storage, and Site Nodes, and lists what needs attention. Health problems reach the alarm queue only through a rule, so create rules for the conditions your operators must act on.
Event history
Camera event history is kept for 90 days by default. An administrator changes it, from 1 to 3,650 days, under Configure > System > General > Event history. Recordings follow their own retention; see Recording and playback.
Get support
In Configure > System > Diagnostics & logs, choose a time range and download a support bundle. It never includes passwords or other secrets. Send it to us through Support with a short description of the problem.
