Recording, retention, and evidence
Choose each camera's recording mode, build recording schedules, set retention, keep footage for a case with evidence holds, and export clips and reports.

With Verify + VMS, Kalytera Cloud records your cameras in the cloud. Each camera has a recording mode and a retention, and footage you need for a case can be kept with an evidence hold and exported.
Choose a recording mode
Open the camera under Cameras, go to its Recording tab, and select Edit recording. Choose the Recording mode:
| Recording mode | What is stored |
|---|---|
| Adaptive continuous (quiet 1 fps except H.265, full rate on events) | Everything. Quiet scenes are stored at one frame per second, and motion, detection-rule, and alarm events at the camera's full frame rate, including a short period before and after. |
| Motion / object detection | Only the activity periods, at full frame rate, with the time before and after each event. |
| Scheduled | Full frame rate while the selected schedule is active. |
| Routine recording off | No routine footage. Alarm evidence is set separately. |
Lists show these modes as Adaptive continuous, On motion, Scheduled, and Not recording. Select Save recording when you are done.
Adaptive continuous and Motion find activity by themselves; they need no analytics rule. H.265 cameras are never reduced to one frame per second, so their quiet scenes use more storage.
In Adaptive continuous, Full frame rate on motion is on by default. When you turn it off, quiet scenes and motion both record at one frame per second, and only detection-rule and alarm events record at the full frame rate.
Under Advanced recording details, Before event (seconds) runs from 10 to 300 and After event (seconds) from 10 to 600.
Build a recording schedule
- Under Cameras, select Schedules. The page is Recording schedules.
- Under New schedule, enter a Name and choose the Time zone. Each schedule keeps its own time zone, so daylight-saving changes do not shift it.
- Under Weekly local-time slots, use Weekdays or Every day, or select Add interval for each day, start, and end.
- Select Save schedule, then choose it as the camera's Schedule with the Scheduled mode.
A schedule that cameras still use cannot be deleted. Reassign those cameras first.
Set retention
Retention is set in whole days. A tenant administrator sets the portal's maximum under Settings > Retention > Footage retention (days), up to 30 days.
Each camera either keeps Use system default on or has its own Footage retention (days), which cannot be longer than the system default.
Changing retention applies to new footage only: footage already recorded keeps the expiry it was given. When your storage is full, the oldest footage is removed first and recording carries on.
Keep footage for a case
An evidence hold keeps chosen footage and records for a case until you release them, even past their retention.
- Open Investigate > Evidence holds and select Create evidence hold.
- Enter a Case reference and a Preservation reason.
- Select the records to keep, at most 100 records and 20 media objects, and create the hold.
When the case is closed, open the hold and select Request release. Operators need the Manage evidence preservation holds permission; tenant administrators have it with their role.
Export a clip
- In Investigate > Recorded video, use Set start and Set end on the timeline.
- Select Review export, check the clip in Export clip, and select Create export.
- When it shows Export ready, select Download MP4.
If there is no footage at the start you chose, the portal shows Recording gap at export start, tells you when the next recording begins, and asks you to confirm. Your exports are listed under Investigate > Exports, where you can download them again while they are available.
Create a report
A report is a fixed document of an evidence hold, an alarm incident, or an audit period, to hand over. Open Investigate > Reports, select Create report, and choose its scope. Later changes do not rewrite a saved report. Download it as CSV, JSON, or HTML, or use Open print view.
