Camera analytics run on the camera itself. In Kalytera VMS you draw a detection zone or a trip line, write the rule to the camera, and check what the camera holds. Rules are on the camera's Analytics tab, under Analytics rules.

What you need

  • The Commission camera analytics permission, which can be given for single cameras. Viewing rules needs View devices.
  • A camera connected through Axis VAPIX, Hikvision ISAPI, or Dahua HTTP, or a HeroSpeed camera connected through ONVIF.

Camera analytics are marked Not qualified: they have not been qualified on camera hardware yet. The camera triggers they produce are also pending hardware qualification for rules.

Create a rule

  1. On the camera's Analytics tab, select Add rule. New analytic rule opens with the note Draft only—nothing is written to the camera yet.
  2. Choose the Camera channel, and enter a Rule name, the Cooldown (seconds), and the Analytic profile. Keep Rule enabled on.
  3. Draw over the live video or a grid: a Detection zone of 3 to 32 points, or a Trip line of 2 points. Arrows on a trip line show the crossing direction.
  4. Under Objects, choose any object, humans, or vehicles. Axis Object Analytics detects humans only.
  5. Set Sensitivity (%) where the camera offers it. Hikvision detection zones also have Minimum dwell.
  6. Under Delivery, choose Email, with an address used by this rule only, or Native subscription.
  7. Select Create draft.

Write the rule to the camera

  1. Check the draft, and select Save draft after any change.
  2. Select Apply to camera. The Desired panel shows what you asked for, and the Applied panel shows what the camera holds.
  3. Select Read back to read the rule from the camera again, or Refresh to update the page.

If the camera ends up with the wrong setup, Roll back returns it to the previous one. A rule in Repair required offers Repair, where you choose the outcome you want. Email rules also show Delivery health.

Limits

  • Up to 64 rules per camera.
  • A detector that the camera has only once takes one rule.
  • Dahua cameras take one Email rule per camera.

Tamper and video loss

Tamper and video loss are the camera's own conditions, switched on or off. After the camera reconnects, a state that has not been confirmed again shows as unknown: Camera tamper state unknown or Physical video signal state unknown.

Good to know

  • Rules that already exist on the camera are not brought into Kalytera VMS.
  • Rules have no schedule of their own.
  • Analytics are not available over a manufacturer SDK connection.
  • To react to analytics with alarms and actions, see Rules and alarms.
