Alarm notifications
Subscribe to alarm emails, set quiet hours, configure rule recipients and reminders, and preview and send an alarm by email.
Contents
Alarm notifications send information from Cloud to people. They are separate from Camera email alarms, which receive messages from devices and create alarms. Your own subscriptions, administrator rules and manual sends have different controls; check which one produced a message before changing settings.
Subscribe with your account
- Open My account > Alarm email and select Add alarm email. People whose roles don't grant Receive alarm emails, such as Read-only, don't have it.
- Choose Where: every Site, one Site or one camera. Under Alarms, choose the severity threshold.
- Choose Email language and whether to Include the event snapshot.
- Select Add. The subscription uses your account's email address while you remain eligible to receive it.
The alarm text that Cloud writes itself, such as a line crossing or a zone intrusion, is in the email's language.
Use Pause to stop a subscription temporarily, Resume to restart it or Remove to delete it. These choices do not cancel emails an administrator sends through a rule. A snapshot remains in the recipient's mailbox even after access to Cloud is removed.
Choose scheduled summaries
Under Scheduled summary, enter one to four sending times and your Time zone, then select Save summary times. Use Send in summary on a subscription to include it, or Send at once to return to immediate delivery. No alarms means no email at that time. When subscriptions overlap, immediate delivery wins, subject to quiet hours. Rule emails are unaffected. Stopping the summary returns its subscriptions to immediate delivery; alarms already waiting retain their planned summary.
Set quiet hours
Under Quiet hours, set From, Until and Time zone, then select Save quiet hours. Your subscription messages are held for a summary when quiet hours end, provided you are still subscribed. Use Stop quiet hours to turn the setting off.
Quiet hours affect your subscriptions only. Rule emails and manual sends remain immediate. Changing or stopping quiet hours does not move the deadline of a summary already being held, so an existing summary may still arrive at its originally planned time.
Configure recipients and reminders
Administrators configure alarm rules under Settings > Alarm rules, where the relevant feature is enabled. In the rule's email actions, choose People in this system or enter Other addresses, separated by commas or semicolons. Account recipients receive mail while they retain access; external addresses need no Cloud account.
- Choose the snapshot option and Email language.
- If appropriate, select Give each other address its own video link. The link follows the video link policy; anybody receiving a forwarded link can use it until expiry or revocation.
- Under If nobody acknowledges the alarm, enter 1 to 1,440 minutes and the reminder recipients.
- Save the rule's actions and inspect Recent email after a matching alarm. An administrator can select Send again there for a recipient whose delivery failed.
Acknowledging or resolving the alarm before the reminder deadline cancels that email. The reminder does not increase the alarm's severity or change its response state. It uses the rule's chosen snapshot, link and language options.
Send one alarm manually
- Open an alarm and select More > Send by email. Operators and administrators can use this action; sending outside the portal requires the external-email permission.
- Choose recipients, language, snapshot and any external incident links.
- Select Preview and inspect the message. Each recipient receives a separate message.
- Select Send. If anything changed after the preview, generate another preview before sending.
Inspect Sent by email for delivery state and Revoke link when an external recipient's incident access should end. A link also stops working for good if it is opened after its sender loses the access they needed to send it, or after their account is disabled or deleted. For a recipient whose delivery failed, an administrator can select Send again; the recipient is checked again before it goes, and it is not offered for a revoked or expired link. Mail-server acceptance does not prove the recipient read or received the message. Revoking a link cannot remove an attachment already delivered. Alarms suppressed when they arrived cannot be sent this way.
Browser alerts
In My account > Alarm alerts in this browser, configure sound and desktop notifications. Browser permission is required for desktop notifications, and the choices apply to this browser. They are separate from email and the phone app's push notifications. The bell separates security alarms from system health so you can review both queues.
Set the sender and mail server
Under Settings > Alarm email, administrators set Sender name and Footer line, and choose an accent color. To use your own mail service, select Use this portal's own mail server, enter the provider's server, port, encryption, sender and sign-in details, and select Save mail server. Send the test message offered and confirm it arrives. Failures retry through your chosen server; there is no automatic fallback to the platform's server.
Play a speaker clip for an alarm
An alarm rule can also select a clip stored on an Axis speaker connected through a Bridge Agent. Choose the Site's speaker and its clip in the rule's output action. It plays once for each alarm the rule raises at that Site without changing volume. Verify the reported action; it does not prove someone heard the sound.
