Update, repair, and remove
Use System Manager and Setup on Windows servers to control services, import signed updates, repair or remove Kalytera VMS, and keep or delete its data.
Contents
On Windows servers, KalyteraVMS System Manager and KalyteraVMS Setup look after the installation: they control the services, import signed updates, repair the installed version, and remove it. This guide describes Windows servers.
What you need
- A Windows account that can approve changes: every change goes through Windows User Account Control. Viewing the status in System Manager needs no sign-in.
- For an update: a signed update file (
.kvupdate).
Check status in System Manager
KalyteraVMS System Manager sits in the notification area. It shows a row each for Management, Site Node, and Bundled PostgreSQL, with state and version, plus Maintenance Setup (Ready or Unavailable) and Windows restart (Pending or Not detected).
- Local service control starts, stops, or restarts each service, or all of them with Restart all. Refresh reads the status again. Stopping a running Site Node asks you to Confirm Site Node interruption.
- Local actions include Open Management, Complete Node Setup (only on a Site Node that is not registered yet), Repair, update or remove…, and Open support folder, which opens
%ProgramData%\KalyteraVMS.
Import a signed update
- In System Manager, under Product updates, select Import signed update… and choose the
.kvupdatefile. - Follow the update in Update history, from Received to Committed, or to Failed or Maintenance required. If an update stops, select Resume.
If Product updates shows Unavailable · Kalytera product-update verification keys are not installed, this server cannot verify update files yet. Kalytera VMS does not check for updates online.
Integration packages (.kvipkg) are handled the same way under Integration packages: Install or update…, Roll back, Repair…, and Remove.
Repair, update, or remove with Setup
Select Repair, update or remove… in System Manager. KalyteraVMS Setup opens in maintenance mode and offers what fits the server:
| Server state | Choices |
|---|---|
| Installed | Repair or update, Remove product (keep data) |
| Removed, data kept | Reinstall |
| Setup did not finish | Resume setup |
Setup never installs an older version over a newer one. It reports Downgrade is blocked with the version already installed.
Remove product (keep data) starts without asking for confirmation.
What removal keeps
Removing the product keeps the database, the keys, the recordings, the installation identity, the certificates, and %ProgramData%\KalyteraVMS, so Reinstall can bring the server back.
To delete the data as well, run KalyteraVMS.Setup.exe uninstall --delete-data from the command line. It deletes the recording folders and their key, the Site Node identity key, the Management certificate and media key, %ProgramData%\KalyteraVMS, the registry key, and the cached copy of Setup. If Setup cannot prove that the recording storage belongs to this installation, it refuses and exits with code 20.
--delete-data permanently deletes the recordings and the keys that protect them.
Command line
KalyteraVMS.Setup.exe takes these commands:
| Command | Use |
|---|---|
status | Report the installation's state. |
plan | Show what Setup would do. |
install --profile <standalone|management|site-node> | Install a machine profile. |
resume | Continue a Setup that did not finish. |
repair | Repair or update the installation. |
uninstall [--delete-data] | Remove the product, keeping the data unless --delete-data is given. |
Secrets never go on the command line. The exit codes are 0, 2, 10, 12, 1618, 3010 or 1641, 20, and 21. Run from the cached copy of Setup, repair and uninstall return 0 as soon as they have relocated, before the work is done, so check the result with status afterwards.
Good to know
- Setup logs, System Manager logs, and update receipts stay in the support folder. See Diagnostics and support.
