Introducing Kalytera VMS and Kalytera Cloud

Two ways to run video security with Kalytera, on your own servers with Kalytera VMS or hosted by us with Kalytera Cloud.

Most of what we build at Kalytera Systems goes into two products. They share one idea: cameras, recordings, alarms and the people who deal with them, all in one place. They suit different companies, though, so here is how we think about each.

Kalytera VMS, on your own servers

Kalytera VMS is video management software for Windows Server. You install it on your own hardware and your recordings stay on your network. Operators work in a web browser, so there is nothing to install on their PCs.

A few things we are particularly pleased with:

  • Live video without exposing cameras. Video reaches the browser over WebRTC, relayed by the management server, so operators never connect to cameras directly.
  • Recordings you can rely on. Every recording is encrypted at rest with AES-GCM and checked for integrity. Exports are MP4 files with a manifest of SHA-256 hashes.
  • Playback that shows the gaps. Up to eight cameras play back in sync, and the timeline shows exactly where there is video and where there isn't.
  • Native integrations. Axis, Hikvision and Dahua cameras connect through their own interfaces, and other cameras through ONVIF.

Rules turn camera events, inputs and system health into actions: start recording, send an email, call a signed webhook, switch a relay or move an Axis camera to a preset.

Kalytera Cloud, hosted by us

Kalytera Cloud is for companies with many sites that would rather not run servers. We host it, and each customer gets a private portal with its own users, roles, audit history and storage.

Cameras connect in three ways: RTSP pull, RTMP or RTMPS push with a key per camera, or the Kalytera Bridge Agent, which finds Axis, Dahua and Hikvision cameras as well as ONVIF ones on the site's network and relays their video without opening any inbound port.

Recording can be Continuous, Motion or Scheduled (Continuous drops to one frame per second when nothing is happening), and video is kept for 1 to 30 days. Video analytics raise alarms for zone intrusion, line crossing, loitering and overcrowding, each with a snapshot and a clip.

What comes next

iOS and Android apps for both products are coming soon. Until then, the best way to judge either product is with your own cameras: request a demo of Kalytera VMS, or ask for a Cloud pilot.
